Cel de-al şaptelea copil al Mariei şi al lui Ion vine pe lume în întuneric, în suferinţă şi neînţelegere. Maria încearcă să găsească ceva de lucru, dar nimeni nu o ajută. Doar mila vecinei (Mala) o face să supravieţuiască de pe o zi pe alta. Putinii bani ii sunt smulsi cu batai si injuraturi de catre Ion, care a căzut în patima alcoolului. Părăsită de soţ, Maria refuză să-şi vîndă un copil şi devine prostituată...

Maria and Ion used to love each other once. But now, their seventh child would be born to live in the darkness, pain and fights. Maria tries finding some work, but nobody helps her. Only her kind-hearted neighbor’s (Mala) generosity supports her in surviving from one day to the other. The small amount of cash that she has is brutally snatched from her, as beaten and sworn at by Ion, who wastes most of his time into a suburb tavern. Left alone by her husband, Maria could never ever accept selling her baby. She would rather sell herself…
